BIOL 359

Evolution

A study of the processes of evolution; the differentiation of populations and the origin of new forms of life. Prereq: BIOL 139. Prof: Jonathan Witt I found this to be an interesting but annoying course

2 midterms 25%, Final is 50%. Tests are multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answer. Course was okay for 300 level biology elective, but I found his questions were ambiguous and his multiple choice isn't fair (multiple answers seem possible). Overall: okay, but don't expect amazing results.

The course is not so bad, but is a little content heavy. All theory and memorization of definitions. Only one sample midterm to look at his exam/midterm style and no practice questions. Literally need to memorize a LOT. I have designed a course-notes style that is filled in for this course and am willing to sell copies to help out students. Really nice prof. Allows you to skip midterms without a note, and weight goes straight to exam. Made an error with my final mark but forgetting to note the fact that the weight of mymidterm should be pu ton my exam, and instead gave me a zero on it. I thus got a heart attack upon seeing a 69% in the course despite studying really hard. He made the correction though when I emailed him.

i wish uwaterloo gives this course to someone else to teach. jonathan shouldnt play with anyone's career. i have had a very bad experience with this course. dont take it if you dont need it. it definitely is not a bird course.

course is very interesting itself but jonathan makes sure that people don't do that great in the course. i agree with the description and also with tomato. dont expect amazing results. Jonathan is one very rude lecturer and doesnt care about anyone's career or anything.

Yeah, I agree with the above description. Doing the readings doesn't take too long, but the questions are pretty ambiguous. I still recommend it though, it's a very manageable course for 300 level biology.
