This course is designed for those with no or very limited Japanese language background. The course aims to build students' basic written and spoken skills in the language as well as provide relevant cultural information. by the end of this course, students should expect to be able to read and write simple passages, as well as 220 kanji, and to engage in simple daily conversation. The course consists of mandatory lectures and tutorials. Newly admitted students and those who have formally or informally studied japanese (ex. high school) must be interviewed to enroll in this course. Exclusion: EAS121H1, EAS122Y1 DR=HUM; BR=1
