History & Film

An introduction to issues in modern cultural history through the study of selected narratives and documentary films with supplementary reading, lectures and discussions.

Basically a course where all you have to do is sit there and watch a 2-3 hour long movie. The course composes of 5 discussions where u just basically talk on ACE about the movie which is worth a total of 50%. A essay u have to write which is worth 30% and a take-home final which is worth 20%.

You are not going to have to pull your hair out to keep up with this course. It's very manageable.

Took this course in 2011. It apparently use to be easy but many peers thought they changed the marking schema to be more difficult. The TA's were inadequate markers and their whole justification for marking was incredible. Apparently it is impossible to get a 91+ on a small assignment due to grade inflation? Also the times in which you post on the mandatory online discussion board is weighted more seriously than the quality of the posts. I.e. If someone posted once everyday with some un-insightful information, they would receive a higher grade than one who posted some posts at the beginning and end of the week but contributed thoughtful ideas and demonstrated a high level of thought process. Overall somewhat easy course but expectations are too high for a 200 level course and TA's were inadequate markers
