Introduces students to issues of importance within social science, such as human culture and socialization, consumerism, mass media, self and society, social psychology, social control, race and colonialism, the environment and globalization. The main course themes are the social construction of reality, the power dynamics that shape society, and the social justice perspective. Note: This course has been approved in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies for general education credit. Course credit exclusions: AP/HREQ 2400 6.00 (prior to Fall 2011), AP/SOSC 1000 9.00, AP/ SOSC 1009 9.00. Course credit exclusions: AS/SOSC 1000 9.00, AS/SOSC 1009 9.00, AK/SOSC 2400 6.00.
Best course I've ever taken! Gen Ed* Learned so much and professor is coolest guy ever, Dr Claudio Colaguori. Readings are very interesting. 4 exams, 8 easy summaries and tutorial participation marks. Good luck getting into this course!
