Microbial Ecology and Diversity

Examples from terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and plant- and animal-associated environments, will be used to illustrate the activities and diversity of microorganisms in these habitats. The importance of the ecological roles of microbes to aspects of agriculture, geochemistry, human biology, and the biology of extreme environments will be considered.

Dr. B.J. Butler lecture:midterm exam 20% final exam 45% student presentations 10% lab: 4 lab reports 25% exam format: written answer, a mix of short answer and essay questions. The exams are easy if you are good with applying concepts and definitions. Exams are cumulative and includes materials from the lab and student presentations. Questions (unless from the student presentations) are not extremely specific in nature.
