The economics of insurance, utility theory. Application of probability to problems of life and death. The determination of single premiums for insurances and annuities in both the discrete and continuous case.
This is the second easiest math course ever, the first being ACTSC 231. There is no rocket science or rigorous deriving here. Only straightforward problems. The 2 midterms are easy. Most students get near perfect on the first one and around 80% on the second. Final exam is a bit long as expected. However, the problems are simple and often times answers are given. I highly recommend taking this course if it is taught by Prof Johnny Li.
